when barely 16, she dropped her studies for a career in showbiz.
With her rich Soul Queen voice she quickly established herself
as a singer, with music critics hailing her as ‘the
new Shirley Bassey’ and ‘Britain’s Tina
Turner’. ‘All very flattering’, she says,
‘but I’d rather be remembered as the first Nola
Fontaine’.
As she became more established the plaudits continued. ‘Nola
is musical dynamite’ (Evening Standard); ‘Nola
is glam rock personified’ (The Stage); ‘Nola can
swing, belt out rockers and handle soft ballads’ (Music
Week); ’Only those made of stone will be able to stand
still when they hear Nola. With her big personality, charm,
looks and voice this gal is heading for the big time (The
Stage). And succeed Nola did.
She
topped the bill at concerts throughout Europe, Scandinavia
and the Far East. At the Royal Albert Hall she received a
standing ovation when she performed before 5,000 Society kids
